Island Bathrooms

Business Description

Island Bathrooms was established in 1981 and has now grown into two showrooms based in Dorset.

The company sell unique bathroom pieces from toilets to taps. Each piece is beautifully designed and turns the more mundane elements of a functional bathroom space into pieces of art and contemporary design.

Project Description

We were asked to pitch for the new Island Bathrooms eCommerce website, so we created a range of web design concepts. Although we didn't win the pitch, we wanted to show off the design that we created.

The approach for this project was unique in that Island required an e-commerce website allowing them to sell the products but also they wanted a stylish, uncluttered brochure style area.

Solution

We felt that the best solution was to split the website into two parts; a brochure section and an e-commerce section. The idea was to bring a web user to the brochure part of the site which would be clean, stylish and dynamic and then once a user has decided on items that they wish to purchase they would be naturally led to the e-commerce driven part of the site.

Result

The main challenge for an e-commerce websites is that a great deal of product related information needs to be displayed and the site needs to be simple and functional. This is not always the best combination for making beautiful sites which is why we split the site up to form two slightly different looks, one beautiful and stylish and the other still beautiful but far simpler and functional to allow for a smoother transaction process.

The result would be fairly unique in the e-commerce web design world working much a like a showroom where the entrance and items on display entice a shopper but the buying process is easy, efficient and fast leaving the customer feeling that they have had a good shopping experience.
