Business Description

Marine Fuel Point is a new business owned by Fulwell Marine Ltd which is to act as an online portal to the marine and non-marine sectors. The brainchild of Master Mariner Graeme Bissett of Weymouth, MarineFuelPoint.com was launched on 01 June 2008.

Project Description

Marinefuelpoint.com offers the first ever nationwide directory of marine fuel points and suppliers, allowing boat owners to find the best value fuel within just a few clicks. In a climate of spiraling prices and concerns that UK red diesel could cease to be available to commercial and leisure boaters in some areas from November 2008, the website provides a valuable new resource to the boating community.

One of the main features of the site include a ‘Marine Base Directory’, listing a wide range of other marine-related products and services for the boating community and associated leisure pursuits. There are also plans to add a mariners’ forum in the coming months.

As well as mapping red diesel and petrol fuel points, the website is capable of including suppliers of LPG and Biodiesel, which – although in their infancy at the moment – could prove to be the fuels of the future.

Solution

We created a fully dynamic CMS driven website that allowed Marine Fuel Point to keep all of their site up to date. Not only can end users update their fuel prices, but the business management can login to their own dedicated administration area and view all of the important information about the end users, registered businesses and fuel prices.

The integration of a Google mapping enabled us to improve usability and instantly show how popular the website is by using icons representing the different business types. We also used AJAX extensively allowing the end user to change the way their data is displayed - either in map form, or in tabular format.

Result

We are really happy with the end result. Fulwell Marine Ltd now have a very functional website that has put them in a market leading position versus other competitor websites.

All of the content within the site can be edited using our bespoke Strawberry CMS (Content Management System), which we developed from scratch for Marine Fuel Point and their requirements.
