Derby Homes chose Strawberrysoup as part of a public sector tender process. They were particularly impressed with our digital experience and in-house technical expertise. We led the design and development of their website, tenant dashboard system and information center.
The original web presence for Derby Homes in no way served their 22,000 tenants. With cuts being made in the sector closing local housing offices and putting pressure on resources, we were asked to work with them to design and develop a brand new web platform that would not only make the best of the situation but push forward into a new era of service for the organisation.
The plan for this work began with refining the website to include only necessary information coupled with core functionality. Our design team would work on stripping the content down, while the development team would focus on integrating the many separate online services into one consolidated system.
“Internal surveys show a huge improvement in user experience with 93% of users stating that they found what they wanted.”
Our main focus with this project was creating an accessible resource for information for tenants.
We devised an internal ‘Google-esque’ search feature which pulls information back in an intelligent way, and a personal dashboard where tenants can view their financial status and even when their property is due to be repaired. The look and feel is very clean, making the most of white space and a set of simple iconography aids brand communication. We also worked with the management and executive teams of the organisation to define a strategy for the site.
We were aware that with such a large number of people contributing to the site, a strict scheme must be implemented otherwise the site risked reverting to past habits.
We have been working with Derby Homes since 2008 and have developed several more modules of the website for them as new systems came online. An internal survey of tenants came back with promising figures, notably 93% of users stating that they found what they needed on the website without having to call the help centre.
Numerous households have signed up to the online dashboard area making it quick and easy to keep track of their accounts. Derby Homes continues to progress and has emerged as the Number 1 ALMO in the UK with many organisations looking to them for inspiration.
