We’ve recently launched a new website for the not-for-profit housing organisation The Hyelm Group which offers quality but affordable accommodation for young people moving to London.
Their existing website was outdated and there was a need to review the content needed on the site and how to display everything users might want to see in the simplest way possible.
We worked closely with the social enterprise to establish the key users of the site, the information they would want and need to find on the website and how best to organise and display the content in order to ensure good user experience.
The new website is part of a big change to the way Hyelm works as an organisation, using digital technology to streamline internal processes as well as improve their external communications.
The ability for potential residents to check eligibility and apply for accommodation online was a key feature that needed to be included in the build of the new website. Users can find all the information they need about and view photos of both the Hampstead or Old Street housing schemes, compare accommodation side by side, and apply online.
Formerly, applicants would have to download a PDF form from the Hyelm website and post it to the head office. The new online application process filters out applicants who are ineligible, which means staff receive far less invalid entries saving a lot of time.
There is also a Board Members area on the site, where members can login and download meeting minutes and other documents they may need, instantly.
The launch of the website also marks a change to the way that their members will receive Hyelm news. The last paper newsletter has been sent out and moving forward, members will receive news and updates in their email inboxes, or on the news area of the website.
We are working with Hyelm as their digital agency on an ongoing basis, developing the site’s content, internal technologies and managing a social marketing campaign for them. As well as email newsletters and the blog, we are using social media to communicate the work The Hyelm Group does as a social enterprise and the value it gives to the community. The new Facebook page for Hyelm is gaining a lot of attention so far, with over 8,000 ‘likes’ from current members and residents, young people wanting to move to London and those generally interested in the social enterprises’ activities!
